"Complexity / Simplicity" is a full length novel detailing several years in the life of Jeff Tripp, an entrepreneur and family man with a predilection for innocent infatuations involving women that he knows little or nothing about. The object of one such unreasonable attraction is Sam Warren, an acquisitions specialist with a firm that is interested in purchasing Jeff's custom molding company. During a series of business and social encounters, their relationship, at first casual, evolves into one that threatens to become more than either intends or is comfortable with.
Sam's life begins to crumble when she learns that her employer is at risk of failing while she is struggling in her marriage to Jim, an unemployed carpenter. Jeff, experiencing frustration in his own sex life with his wife Gail, struggles along with Sam not to cross a self-imposed line.
Despite her involvement with Jeff and a burgeoning friendship with Gail, Sam severs contact with both, suddenly, completely and without explanation. For years Jeff is frustrated in his attempts to reestablish contact, hurt by the loss of the relationship that he treasured.
Sam's situation changes over time but by happenstance she first rekindles her friendship with Gail and together they devise a plan to test Jeff's passions. That plan is implemented and succeeds beyond expectations resulting in complexities that no one had anticipated. The entwined relationships are repeatedly tested by the sexual connection between Jeff and Sam, Gail’s resentment of sacrifices that he had made for Jeff, Sam’ s jealousy of what Jeff has accomplished, and Jeff’s inability to resolve his own desires.
That is until Sam and Gail devise and execute a second plan that successfully simplifies everything.
